A Life Liminal – Nicholas Snowdon Willey
The early poems of Nick Willey need little explanation. The poems stand, mythic and magical, for themselves.
Nick was well known to his contemporaries and included in the seminal sixties Penguin anthology of beat poets, “Children of Albion”, and his poems featured in a number of magazines, including Encounter and, more recently, Ambit. Other publication of his work was limited to a hardback of twenty one of his poems (all included in Liminal Green), called The Green Tunnel, published in 1965, (Signals Press), and a pamphlet of 1974, Seven Poems (Villiers Press). Both are extremely difficult to find today. An unpublished collection, Here Now, is also included.

In June 1969 The BBC Third Programme transmitted a reading of some poems, “The Living Poet – Nicholas Willey”, with commentary by Hallam Tennyson.
Nick Willey was a fine reader of verse and a small number of recordings of him are held by the British Library. A CD of readings by Joss Wynne Evans of the poems is included at the back of the book.
I am as ever grateful to Sarah Willey for her encouraging support.
